SYSTEMA: A broad scope of analyses

SYSTEMA is an Astrium software products line for space engineering, which offers in a highly interactive framework a large set of applications to model and analyze the spacecraft behavior.

SYSTEMA relies on an integrated framework gathering several engineering applications in a common environment. The SYSTEMA software infrastructure consists of basic interactive toolboxes to build the spacecraft geometry, define its orbit, its kinematics, specify a mission scenario, visualize the results and set the analysis process…

The SYSTEMA framework embeds several engineering applications allowing the engineer to perform the design and evaluate the performances of any space systems in various technical fields.

The THERMICA suite provides a complete package to perform the thermal design of a spacecraft. It offers performing modules to compute radiative couplings, conductive couplings, external fluxes (solar, planetary…) gathered in THERMICA and an up-to-date temperature solver: THERMISOL.

DOSRAD and MATCHARGE are intended to model the impacts of the space radiations (trapped particles, solar protons) on space materials and equipments. DOSRAD evaluates the protection induced by the spacecraft on the equipments and components to compute the dose level. MATCHARGE is a dedicated module to calculate the in-orbit degradation of solar cells.

The PERTURBATIONS module is dedicated to the computation of the in-orbit perturbations induced by the space environment on the spacecraft. It evaluates the forces and torques induced by air drag, solar and earth pressure, gravity gradient and magnetic moment.

The OUTGASSING software computes the contamination induced by materials outgassing in space vacuum. It takes into account the real geometrical configuration to model the exchange between surfaces and integrates the deposit of contaminant products over the mission.

ATOMOX computes the impact, in terms of surface erosion, of the highly energetic atomic oxygen that constitutes the major constituent of the ambient atmosphere in low Earth Orbit.

The PLUME and CONTAMINE software are dedicated to plume impingement analysis in order to evaluate the impacts of thruster plume on a spacecraft. PLUME computes the thermal flux, the incident mass flux and the dynamic effects (forces and torques) while CONTAMINE is dedicated the evaluation of the contamination induced by thrusters flow products.

CAP allows the propulsion engineer to design, size and evaluate the performances of every propulsion sub-systems. It relies on a powerful schematic editor and a large database of components (thrusters, tanks, valves, lines…). Its mission interface is adapted to specify launcher mission as well as 15 years mission of a telecommunication satellite.

The POWER application is intended to design and evaluate the performances of the power sub-system. It relies on a power architecture editor that integrates models for solar arrays, batteries, regulators. It is interfaced with the THERMICA software that computes solar and planet fluxes taking into account the actual geometry and mission of the spacecraft.

All these applications share the same description of the spacecraft geometry, orbit and kinematics aiming at a maximum efficiency in the spacecraft design process.

The SYSTEMA available applications can be provided as stand alone module or as integrated package. They are available either in the SYSTEMA V3 environment or for some applications in the new SYSTEMA V4 environment.
